HMB (beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate) is a leucine metabolite, which prevents protein breakdown and promotes muscle hypertrophy (increase of cells constructing tissue); it also reduces possible muscle strain injuries after high intensity training, thus decreasing the percentage of fat in the body.
